DrPlugin

Install and activate Pro

Updated October 24, 2026

Install the paid add-on, then activate your license key to get updates and support. This needs TierMint Pro and the free TierMint plugin.

What you need

Requirement Version
WordPress 6.9 or newer
PHP 8.1 or newer
The free TierMint plugin 1.0.0 or newer, installed and active

TierMint Pro is a separate plugin. It adds features to the free plugin through hooks and never replaces it, so both stay installed and active. What TierMint Pro adds lists the features.

Install TierMint Pro

  1. Buy TierMint Pro on the TierMint Pro product page at drplugin.com.
  2. Sign in to your DrPlugin account and open Downloads. On the TierMint Pro card, click Download to get the TierMint Pro zip. The free plugin zip is under Additional files, as TierMint free plugin.
  3. Install and activate the free plugin first. The installation guide covers this step.
  4. In wp-admin, open Plugins → Add New Plugin and click Upload Plugin.
  5. Choose the TierMint Pro zip, click Install Now, then click Activate Plugin.

If the free plugin is missing or too old

TierMint Pro declares the free plugin as a required plugin. Until the free plugin is installed and active, the Plugins screen shows the requirement on the TierMint Pro row, and WordPress does not activate Pro. Install the free plugin from your DrPlugin account first, as in step 3.

If the free plugin is inactive, or older than 1.0.0, Pro loads none of its features. It shows one admin notice instead: "TierMint Pro needs the free TierMint plugin (version 1.0.0 or newer) active. Pro stays inactive until then." Install or update the free plugin, and Pro starts on the next page load.

Activate your license

Your license key is in your DrPlugin account. It starts with DRP- and has four groups of four characters.

  1. Open TierMint → Settings → License. You need the manage_tiermint_settings capability, which administrators have.
  2. Paste the key into License key. Spaces around the key are trimmed.
  3. Click Activate.

When the key is accepted, the field clears and the panel shows the stored key, masked to its last four characters, with the Status, the Expires date and the Last checked time. Pro then runs one update check in the background straight away, so a waiting update does not wait for the 12-hour check.

The License panel with an active TierMint Pro license, its expiry date and the Recheck now and Deactivate buttons

TierMint stores the key encrypted on your site. It saves the key before it contacts DrPlugin, so you keep the key even when activation fails.

What each status means

The panel and the admin notices share the same wording.

Status Meaning
License active The key is valid for this site. You get updates and support.
License expiring soon The license is active, but it expires within 14 days. The panel shows the expiry date, and the admin notice links to the renewal page.
License expired The license has run out. Renew it to get updates, support and your downloads again.
License revoked DrPlugin revoked the license. Renew, or contact support.
License site limit reached Every site on the license is in use. See If activation is refused.
License not accepted DrPlugin did not accept the key. Check that you pasted the whole key.
Site not activated The key is valid, but this site is not on the license. Paste your key into License key and click Activate.
Updates unavailable on this address This is a local address that cannot be licensed. See Local and staging sites.
License not in use here You deactivated this site. Paste your key into License key and click Activate to use the license here again.
License key unreadable Pro cannot decrypt the stored key, usually because the site's SECURE_AUTH_KEY changed. Enter the key again.
License status unknown Pro could not confirm the license, for example because DrPlugin was out of reach for more than 72 hours. Pro tries again on its own.
No license key No key is stored yet.

If activation is refused

When every site on the license is in use, the panel says how many sites the license allows and shows a Manage your license link. It never lists the other sites. Click Deactivate in the License panel of a site you no longer use, or upgrade the plan, then paste your key into License key and click Activate here again.

When the key is not accepted, the panel says DrPlugin did not recognize it. Copy the key from your DrPlugin account again.

When DrPlugin is busy or cannot be reached, your key is still saved. Try again in a few minutes.

Local and staging sites

DrPlugin cannot license localhost, an IP address or a host name with no dot in it. On such a site the panel shows "Updates unavailable on this address". The site uses no slot on your license, because it cannot be registered at all.

A subdomain counts as its own site. staging.example.com and example.com are two sites, so a staging copy on a subdomain needs its own slot if you want updates there. A leading www. is ignored, so www.example.com and example.com are the same site.

Activate your license on the live site, where you want updates.

How updates arrive

Pro updates show on Dashboard → Updates and on the Plugins screen, like any other plugin update. View details shows the changelog.

Pro asks DrPlugin about updates every 12 hours in a background job and caches the answer. A page load never waits for DrPlugin.

License state What you see
Active The update row shows and installs with one click.
Expired, revoked or not accepted No update row shows, because DrPlugin sends the package only to an active license. When a newer version exists, the panel names it and asks you to renew. After you renew, the update arrives with the next background check.
No key stored Pro does not contact DrPlugin, and no update row shows.
DrPlugin cannot be reached Pro keeps the last good answer for 72 hours. The panel says "The licensing server was unreachable; running on the last good check."

License notices

Pro also tells you about a license problem outside the settings screen. It shows one dismissible notice on the TierMint admin screens and on the Plugins screen, to users who can manage TierMint settings.

Only one notice shows at a time. A missing or unreadable key comes first. A revoked or expired license, or a full site limit, comes next. A key that was not accepted, a site that is not activated, or an address that cannot be licensed comes after that, then a license that expires soon. Each notice links to the fix, such as Renew now, Manage your license, Activate this site or Enter your license key. When a newer version is waiting behind a lapsed license, the notice names it.

Dismissing a notice hides that state only, and only for you. Other users still see it. The notice comes back when the state changes, or when the problem clears and returns later. So dismissing "expiring soon" today does not hide "expired" next month.

Recheck, deactivate or move the license

Recheck now asks DrPlugin for the license status straight away. Without it, the background job refreshes the status every 12 hours.

Deactivate frees this site's slot on the license. The key stays stored, masked, and the status reads "License not in use here" until you paste your key and click Activate again.

To move Pro to another site, click Deactivate on the old site, then activate the key on the new one. Do not activate the plugin again on the old site afterwards: with a key still stored, that registers the old site on the license again.

Deactivating the plugin on the Plugins screen does not free the slot, so a short deactivation costs nothing. When you activate the plugin again with a key stored, Pro registers the site again without using a second slot.

What Pro sends to DrPlugin

For licensing and updates, Pro contacts only drplugin.com, and only while a license key is stored. It calls DrPlugin to activate, to deactivate, for the 12-hour check, for Recheck now, when you activate the plugin, when you delete it, to download an update package, and for the background check that runs after an activation.

Each call carries the license key and this site's address. The update check also sends the installed Pro version. WordPress adds its usual user agent, which names the WordPress version and the site address. With no key stored, Pro makes no licensing or update calls. Other features call their own services: Pro downloads the VAT rate table from DrPlugin once a week whether or not a key is stored, checks VAT numbers with VIES, and calls Stripe, PayPal or SureCart when you use them.

Delete Pro

When you delete TierMint Pro, it first tries to free this site's slot on the license, whatever your data settings. That step needs the free plugin's files, so delete Pro before the free plugin, or click Deactivate in the License panel first. A failure never stops the delete.

What else goes depends on Delete all data on uninstall under TierMint → Settings → General:

Setting What deleting Pro does
Off (default) Keeps the stored key and license status, so a reinstall picks up where you left off.
On Also removes the subscription, recurring tier schedule, team license and seat, affiliate, commission, payout and cart recovery tables, the stored key, the license status, the update cache, the stored tax rates, the VAT number check cache and the dismissed license notices. Invoice number counters stay, so a reinstall never reuses an invoice number.

If you delete Pro with the setting off and later delete the free plugin with it on, the free plugin removes Pro's tables and the invoice number counters too. If the free plugin was removed first with the setting on (for example with WP-CLI), it removes them then, and deleting Pro afterwards clears anything left.

On a multisite network, each site's own setting decides, as it does for the free plugin.

Common questions

Troubleshooting covers more license and update problems.

Why is there no License tab under TierMint → Settings?

If the free plugin is inactive, there is no TierMint menu at all. Check the Plugins screen for the TierMint Pro notice. If TierMint → Settings exists but has no License tab, Pro is not active.

What does "This setting is provided by an extension that is not loaded" mean?

The Pro admin script did not load. Reload the page. If the message stays, look for a script error from another plugin in the browser console.

The panel says it is running on the last good check

DrPlugin did not answer the last check, and Pro is using its 72-hour grace period. If the message does not clear, ask your host whether outgoing HTTPS requests are blocked.

A notice says a new version is waiting, but no update shows

DrPlugin sends the package only to an active license, and the notice can also show when the key was not accepted, the site is not activated or the site limit is reached. Renew the license, activate this site, or free a slot, as the notice says. The update shows after the next background check.
