Reverting an import
Updated October 26, 2026
ConfigPort saves a snapshot before every import. A restore puts back the settings of an item as they were before the import.
Restore an import
-
Open Components → ConfigPort → Snapshots.
-
Click Open on the snapshot of the import. The newest snapshot is at the top.
-
Under Items, each item that the import changed is ticked. Remove the tick from each item that you want to keep as it is now.

-
Click Restore the ticked items.
The result page shows the status of each item, as after an import.

What a restore does
A restore uses the same steps as an import. It checks each item again, saves a snapshot of the current settings first, runs the plugins that act when an extension is saved, writes the settings and cleans the Joomla cache. If writing one item fails, ConfigPort undoes the other items of the restore. See Applying an import.
A restore saves its own snapshot, so you can undo a restore too. Its snapshot shows as Restore of snapshot and the number of the snapshot it restored.
Items that cannot be restored at once
Each item of a snapshot shows its state:
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Written | The import wrote the item. It can be restored. |
| Not confirmed | ConfigPort could not record whether the item was written. It can be restored. |
| Restored | The item was restored already. |
| Not written | The import did not write the item, so there is nothing to restore. |
| Undone | The import undid the item, so there is nothing to restore. |
If the settings of an item changed after the import, for example because someone saved the item, the item is not ticked. Its row says so. Tick Restore anyway to replace the current settings with the settings from before the import.
An item that no longer exists on this site cannot be restored. ConfigPort finds the item by what it is, for example the plugin group and name, and by its row. If the row now holds another extension, ConfigPort does not write to it.
Who can restore
Restoring needs the same permission as importing: Import and restore settings. Users without it cannot see the snapshots. The settings that only a Super User can import can only be restored by a Super User too. See Permissions.
The action log
Each restore adds an entry to Users → User Actions Log with the number of restored items and links to the two snapshots: the one restored, and the one saved before the restore.
