DrPlugin

Quick start

Updated October 26, 2026

ConfigPort copies the settings of components, plugins, modules and template styles from one Joomla site to another. You export the settings to a file on one site and import the file on the other. A preview shows each setting the import would change, before anything changes.

One package runs on Joomla 3.10, 4.4, 5.4 and 6, with PHP 7.4 to 8.4 and a MySQL or MariaDB database. The exact versions we test are on Supported versions.

Install

  1. Download the ConfigPort package (configport-<version>.zip) from drplugin.com.
  2. Open the extension installer. On Joomla 4 and later, go to System → Install → Extensions. On Joomla 3, go to Extensions → Manage → Install.
  3. Upload the file.

The package installs the ConfigPort component, a system plugin for the buttons on edit screens and an action log plugin. The installer enables both plugins. It refuses Joomla before 3.10, PHP before 7.4 and any database other than MySQL or MariaDB, and it says why.

ConfigPort is in Components → ConfigPort. Its dashboard opens Export, Import and Snapshots, and counts the settings of each kind on the site. Super Users can use it at once. To let other groups export or import, see Permissions.

Move settings to another site

  1. Install ConfigPort on both sites.
  2. On the source site, open Components → ConfigPort → Export, tick the items and download the file. See Exporting settings.
  3. On the target site, open Components → ConfigPort → Import and upload the file. See Importing a file.
  4. Check the preview. Where several modules or template styles match, choose a target. Click Continue.
  5. Check the confirmation page and click Apply the import. See Applying an import.

ConfigPort saves a snapshot before it changes anything. To undo the import, see Reverting an import.

You can import a file from an older Joomla, for example a Joomla 3 site, into Joomla 4, 5 or 6. See Importing older Joomla exports.

One item at a time

The Options screen of a component and the edit screens of plugins, modules and template styles have an Export and an Import button. See Quick actions on edit screens.

Updates

The package registers the drplugin.com update server. Joomla shows new versions in System → Update → Extensions (Joomla 4 and later) or Extensions → Manage → Update (Joomla 3). You install them like any other extension update. Snapshots and settings stay.

Uninstall

Open System → Manage → Extensions (Joomla 3: Extensions → Manage → Manage), find the ConfigPort package and click Uninstall. Uninstall the package, not the component or a plugin on its own. The package keeps its parts together.

The uninstall removes the component, both plugins, the menu items and ConfigPort's database tables. Every snapshot and every uploaded file is deleted with them. The entries in Users → User Actions Log stay, as history.
